Lion Dance for Grand Openings in Singapore
Opening a shop, restaurant, clinic or office is exactly the moment for a lion dance. It marks the occasion, draws a crowd, blesses the premises and gives your marketing team an afternoon of footage. We have opened everything from hawker stalls to bank branches across Singapore.
Our standard opening package covers the eye-dotting ceremony for your VIP, the cai qing prosperity ritual, a scroll reveal with your company name in calligraphy, and the mandarin orange presentation. Add firecracker effects, a God of Fortune walkabout or a dragon dance if you want a bigger show.
What Happens on the Day
- 45 minutes before: the troupe arrives, sets up drums and props, and briefs your VIPs on their part.
- The awakening: your guest of honour dots the lion's eyes with cinnabar. The drums begin.
- The performance: the lions dance through your entrance, greet guests and perform the acrobatic routine you selected.
- Cai qing: the lion plucks the greens hung at your doorway and scatters them, spreading prosperity into the premises.
- The finale: scroll reveal, oranges presented to management, group photos with the lions.
Choosing an Auspicious Date and Time
Many clients engage a geomancer to select the exact opening minute, and we build the show around it to the second. If you are choosing the timing yourselves, the working convention in Singapore is simple: mornings between 9am and 11am, avoiding the 7th lunar month, with dates containing 8 preferred and dates containing 4 avoided. A Tuesday 9.38am opening is a very Singapore thing, and we have drummed in hundreds of them.
One practical tip from experience: schedule the lion dance 15 minutes after your guests are told to arrive. The drums are the best assembly bell ever invented, and nobody stays in the carpark once they start.
Add the God of Fortune or a Second Pair of Lions
The most popular add-on for openings is the God of Fortune, or Cai Shen Ye, who works the crowd before and after the lions, handing out chocolate coins and posing for photos. From SGD 288, he turns the waiting time into part of the show. For larger openings, a second pair of lions creates the full flanked entrance, four lions greeting guests along your entryway is the kind of image that ends up on the company's annual report cover.
Venues We Perform At
Shopping malls, shophouses, office towers, industrial parks, showflats, F&B outlets, clinics and car showrooms. If your venue needs permits or insurance letters, we prepare them. If your geomancer has picked 10:28am, the first drumbeat lands at 10:28am.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a lion dance for a grand opening cost?
Most grand opening performances in Singapore fall between SGD 888 and 1,588 for a double lion with the full eye-dotting and cai qing rituals. A single lion starts from around SGD 588 to 788. Weekday mornings cost less than weekends.
What is the eye-dotting ceremony?
Dotting the eyes, or dian jing, awakens a new lion before its first dance. Your VIP or boss dabs red cinnabar on the lion's eyes, mirror and tongue. It is considered very auspicious for a new business and photographs beautifully.
What time should the lion dance start at an opening?
Most openings schedule the performance between 9am and 11am, often at an exact auspicious minute chosen by a geomancer. Tell us the precise timing and we will build the sequence around it, starting the drums exactly on the hour you need.
Do you coordinate with the mall or building management?
Yes. Malls and Grade A offices usually need a permit, insurance letter and noise clearance. We have handled these submissions for most major malls in Singapore and include the paperwork in our service.
How long does an opening ceremony performance last?
Typically 20 to 30 minutes covering the entrance, eye-dotting, pole or bench routine, cai qing, scroll reveal and the mandarin orange presentation to your management team.
