A wedding lion dance packs the oldest blessing in the room into fifteen minutes of noise and joy. It honours the elders, celebrates the couple and gives the photographer the best frames of the night. Here is everything couples ask us, answered in one place.

When in the programme

The banquet march-in is the favourite: lions lead the couple into the ballroom, perform, then bow them to the stage. Second most popular is the tea ceremony blessing at home in the morning, a compact single-lion format. Some couples do the foyer instead, lions greeting guests during cocktail hour. Each works, pick the moment you want amplified.

What the lions present

The classic finale is a scroll reveal reading 'bai nian hao he', a hundred years of harmony, plus mandarin oranges presented to both sets of parents. The crowd-favourite upgrade: the lion delivers the wedding rings to the stage in its mouth. We choreograph it so the ring bearer moment is safe, smooth and completely unforgettable.

Ballroom logistics

Hotels host lion dances weekly and banquet managers know the drill. We coordinate directly with yours in the week before: timing against your runsheet, drum volume for the room, positioning before doors open. A banquet segment runs 10 to 15 minutes, short enough to keep dinner on schedule.

What it costs

Wedding packages start from SGD 688 for a single lion and SGD 988 to 1,388 for the full double-lion march-in with scroll and rings, full details on the wedding page. Dates during the CNY period carry peak pricing, and Saturday banquets book out first, reserve 2 to 3 months ahead.

Where It Sits in a Real Runsheet

A typical hotel banquet: 7.00pm cocktails, lions greet at the foyer for ten minutes. 7.45pm doors open, lions hold position. 8.00pm first march-in, lions lead the couple to the stage, perform the routine and scroll reveal, present oranges to both sets of parents, exit by 8.15pm. Dinner service begins on time, your banquet manager exhales. For morning tea ceremonies: lions arrive after the gate-crash games, bless the home in 15 minutes, and are gone before the tea rounds begin. We draft this placement with your planner in the week before, one call, ten minutes.

Coordinating With Your Photo and Video Team

Tell your photographer about the lion segment when you book them, not on the day. The three frames worth planning: the lions flanking the couple at the ballroom doors, shot from inside as doors open, the ring delivery close-up if you booked it, your videographer should be stage-side, and the orange presentation to the parents, the frame grandparents will print. Our coordinator cues the shots in real time, we do this weekly and know the choreography to the second. Ask us for the shot list PDF, we send it to every couple's media team.

Notes for Mixed and Modern Weddings

The lion dance coexists happily with every format we have met: it has opened church receptions, followed Malay and Indian ceremonies at mixed celebrations, and closed western-style first dances. For couples where one side is unfamiliar with the tradition, we add a 60 second emcee introduction explaining the blessing, guests who understand what they are watching cheer twice as loudly. Solemnisation-only events suit the compact single lion at SGD 688; full banquets suit the double-lion march-in. Whatever the format, the rule we keep: the lions serve your programme, never the other way around, details on the wedding page.
